Vital Events are bringing the Marine Lake Triathlon back to Southport for a 2nd year with an open water swim, fast & flat bike course on fully closed roads along the coast, followed by a scenic run around the Lake. The event base Waterside Lodge is a modern, purpose built two-story Activity Centre on the Marine Lake, it is also Southport District Scout Headquarters. The building has all modern services installed and is accessible to disabled users. The swim course is 750m and will start in the bay in front of Waterside Lodge – the route loops around the first island before returning to the Lodge, Sprint Distance triathletes will then exit the water via the marked slipway whereas Standard Distance competitors will be required to complete a second lap. For 2013 we are improving the swim exit to lessen the effects of the silt disturbance.

Road closures will be in place for the 20km Bike course which takes a left along Marine Drive and travels South adjacent to the beach onto Coastal Road and out towards the roundabout at Pontins, before returning along the same route and past Waterside Lodge, through Fairway roundabout and turning before the Plough (A565) roundabout. On return to the Lodge Sprint competitors will enter transition with Standard Distance requiring a second lap.

The 5km run course exits transition in a southerly direction and follows the wide pavements under the pier and alongside Marine Drive before turning left into Princes Park, over the lake via the footbridge with a short loop around Lower Promenade towards the Southern tip of the Lake before heading North along the Promenade and under the Pier for a second time then following Promenade along the western side of the Lake out towards Fairway where runners will take a left, with a further left at the next roundabout to return to Waterside Lodge where the Sprint Distance will finish whereas the Standard Distance will require a second lap.

Competitors will be started in waves dependant on Sprint or Standard Distance and estimated swim time submitted on entry. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male and Female overall. Age group prizes will be awarded to the 1st Male and Female for each category and also the winning Relay Team.

All entrants will receive a £12.50 RedVenom.co.uk voucher that can be redeemed at registration on 15th June, or at the venue on 16th June or via email to info@redvenom.co.uk (n.b. entrants are encouraged to register on Saturday 15th June, wherever possible, although registration will still be available on race day).
